Peace Weaver offers private & public classes to groups and individuals. She teaches at Festivals, Conferences, Studios, Colleges, Schools, Workshops, Stores and Private Homes. For details about scheduling a class with Peace Weaver click here.

She offers classes and lectures in: Weaving, Spinning, Knitting, Crochet, Clothing Design, Beadwork, Recycling Clothing, Fibers & Open Studio. Most classes are 3-4 hours. Classes with * can be shortened into 1-2 hour lecture demos. Skill level and special materials are noted. Otherwise the classes are open to all - and bring your own materials.

FEATURED CLASSES
TABLET WEAVING

A fun, hands on class for all levels! Experience Peace Weaver's Signature Tablet Weaving technique. Using ancient weaving tools, Peace Weaver refined this ancient and complex art into an accessible production technique. She brought colors and geometry into the threading to create her signature look.

In this class each student will begin with a ready made warp and will be instructed by Peace how to set it up, and weave it. Students will go home with a narrow 3' strap (suitable for a head/hat band, camera strap, etc . . . ). Each belt is uniquely patterned by the student/weaver during the weaving process.

Class materials include the cost of a weaving kit.

ENVELOPE CROCHET PURSE

Peace Weaver's own Crochet Inovation! - Learn to make your foundation row into a spiral and crochet a flat tube that quickly become a bag. We'll also cover adding colors, and pattern rows, a variety of closures, top shaping and straps. For more advanced students we'll do some bottom shaping too.

Students just need a basic beginer knowledge of the (single) crochet stitch.

CLOTHING DESIGN AND PATTERN MAKING CLASSES
These classes are for sewers with basic knowledge who are ready to take the next step. We will not be working on machines, or constructing clothing, most of the class work will be designing patterns although construction will be discussed and analized. Bring a needle and thread, ruler, scizzors, and muslin or practice fabric. Patternmaking paper will be available for purchase.

WEAVING CLASSES
W1*– INTRO TO WEAVING A full indepth demonstration class. You will leave with a full understanding of weaving all over the world, and an appreciation for all the complexities you don't understand. We will look at 4-7 different looms in action.
W4 - DRESSING THE LOOM (full day class) This class covers all the details you need to weave on a loom. We will start with a threadless harness loom, and step by step, plan a project, measure & wind the warp, put the warp on the beams, and thread the loom. We will discuss weaving basics, designing with different threads and threading patterns. We will also cover loom mechanics, care and repair. The loom will be ready to weave by the end of class. If you have a loom and have no idea how to set it up - this is the class for you!

BEADWORK CLASSES
These classes are sewing bead together - in different stitch patterns. We do a small amount of bead stringing for fringe, but mostly we are sewing small seed beads with small thread. This requires good lighting, good eyesight and a delicate hand. The results are worth it!

SPINNING CLASSES
S1*- INTRODCTION TO SPINNING
This is the class for beginners to learn the hand skill of spinning yarn. We cover the basic concepts and begin practicing. Spinning is like riding a bicycle, and in a few hours you will have a grasp on this skill. We will work primairy on drop spindles which are available for purchase. There will be a spinning wheel in class for students to work on. Basic spinning wheel care, cost and design will be introduced. You will leave with a ball of yarn that you made!

S2 - MAKE YOUR OWN NOVELTY YARNS If you've already taken the basic introduction to spinning class, we will cover how to make exciting novelty yarns. We will cover alternative spin shapes, fibers, even funky fabric inserts. Students will develop and practice making several kinds of yarns. Different colors will be available, so you can mix up a yarn just the way you like it.
   
MISCELANEOUS CLASSES
M1*– OPEN STUDIO Q & A Peace Weaver brings her enormous wealth of fiber art knowledge and creativity to an open Q & A. Students can pay per question/time in an unstructured studio time. Bring those heirloom repairs, torn or stuck projects, sewing stucks, mystery yarns or just plain knots. If you have a question she'll do her best to answer it with several creative solutions.
M2*- LECTURE : "WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?"

A GREAT LECTUR OPEN TO ALL PEOPLE - not just those who are "into" fibers - bring your friends!

An informative and inspiring hour lecture/discussion about What you are Wearing. You will never feel the same way about your clothing. Learn about what is on your body, and how it got there. You'll learn how to safely avoid dry cleaning and many other ecological clothing practices. There will be lots of fun things to look at and touch!
